A study showed that heart attack symptoms are different in people with diabetes.
Statistics reveal that heart attacks are usually much more mortal in patients with diabetes and a study conducted in the United Kingdom confirms that this is because infarction symptoms in people with diabetes do not feel the same.
Researchers at the University College in London discovered that people with diabetes do not experience classic chest pain and other symptoms that occur before a heart attack.
Infarction in people with diabetes is not the same.
The results of the study published in the magazine BMJ Open, point out that after analyzing 39 people with diabetes who suffered a heart attack, most claimed to feel only a little chest pain, but not to think that it would be a heart attack.
Melvyn Jones, one of the main authors of the study explains what the reason is:
“Long -term diabetes damages the heart in many ways, causing a greater blockade of blood vessels, but also damages the nerves. This makes patients feel less pain when the blood supply is cut and when pressure on the heart preceding the heart attack occurs. ”
These data are important, since people with diabetes are three times more likely to die due to heart disease compared to the rest of the population.
Likewise, Jones explains, they have up to six times more chances of ending up suffering a heart attack.
During the analysis, many of the participants with diabetes described their symptoms of heart attack as chest pain and discomfort. However, most of them felt that their pain was not so serious as to consider it a heart attack.
In fact, some thought that the discomfort they felt on the chest was simply similar to the one that can cause a heart attack.
The fact that infarction symptoms in people with diabetes do not feel the same represents a big problem, since this delays the search for attention, reducing the probabilities of survival and increasing complications and disability.
Therefore, experts recommend making constant checks, leading a healthy life and immediately go to the doctor in case of an atypical discomfort, especially those people with diabetes.
