In the camps, activities will be worked on that allow them to know more about their pathology and how to transmit to their feelings, in relation to diabetes, their parents.
This year, the Federation has 12 summer camps for children and adolescents with diabetes -between 7 and 16 years -, and, for the third consecutive year, it has the support of Sanofi and its project 'Diguan leaves camps', thewhich is coordinated by psychologists and diabetes experts.
Young people can share their experiences with other children and adolescents who are in a similar situation."These camps are an excellent alternative to help minors to acquire responsibilities with respect to their diabetes," said Fede president Andoni Lorenzo.
In addition, both sports and healthy eating, not only allow to expand their knowledge about diabetes, but also contribute to improving their emotional state.Young people can participate in different workshops, where they will write a joint letter to express their thoughts and emotions, which they will subsequently send to their parents.
The organization of these camps is possible to the collaboration of different volunteers of associations of patients and health professionals.Although volunteers of linked companies also go to these activities to expand their knowledge of the disease.
The type of diabetes 1 affects almost 10,000 young people under 15, and every year the figure increases by about 1,200 cases. Therefore, these camps serve as a diabetological education tool that helps improve the autonomy and self -control of said pathology.
