Asturian patients with diabetes complain for at least two years, when the last centralized purchase of insulin needles, their quality.
The representative of the Association of Diabetics of the Principality of Asturias (ASDIPAS) and member of the Spanish Federation of People with Diabetes (FEDE), Francisco Pérez Labajos, acknowledges that “they did not curl well, they had an inner interior channel, they folded and produced and producedbruises in patients ”.
"Asdipas has not officially received the test that will be raised to patients" all these claims have led to the recent announcement of the Health Service of the Principality of Asturias (SESPA) on the preparation of a specifications of technical conditions for a new purchaseCentralized insulin needles that "will include for the first time the valuations of diabetic patients, with the purpose of guaranteeing product quality and their acceptance by users."
As a previous step, the Office of Evaluation of the Sanitary Technologies of the Sespa will prepare a qualitative study that will allow to know the opinion of the users through a questionnaire in which they will be asked about the degree of satisfaction with the needles according to perceptionof pain, through the use of scientifically validated scales.This work will allow to transfer the assessment of patients to the score of the different offers of commercial houses in a rigorous, contrastable and participatory way.
"They have been dizzy and now we do not trust the health service of the Principality of Asturias" despite these information, patients explain to this newspaper that today they have no knowledge about the type of participation referred toSespa."Asdipas has not officially received the test that is going to be raised to patients," says Pérez Labajos.He also adds that despite the claims that have been issued for more than two years with which they question the quality of the needles, “we have been dizzy and now we do not trust that the Sespa Technical Committee (the same one that formedpart of the award of the previous contract), value them ”.
For their part, from the Asturias Health Service, they assure that, at the proposal of the Diabetics Association of the Principality of Asturias, the inclusion of two professionals of recognized prestige in the Technical Commission that will decide the acquisition of these products has been accepted.This is Edelmiro Menéndez, head of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service of the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA), and the pediatrician Isolina Riaño, responsible for the Children's Diabetes Unit of the same health center.
They also claim that technical valuations will have greater weight in the contest than the price of offers."These decisions, which scrupulously comply with all legal procedures, will contribute to the purchase of a safe, reliable and satisfactory product for patients," they point out from Sespas.
