The athlete Beatriz García, 35 and patient with type 1 diabetes since 25 years ago, has completed in the thirteenth place in the female category the mauna to Mauna Ultra, a 252 -kilometer race in self -sufficiency regime for 7 days that have beenplayed on Hawaii Island.
Beatriz García began in 2007 to play long distance races, and is the first Spanish woman to have finished the 4 deserts, proof that brings together 250 kilometers races in the most arid deserts on the planet, in Jordan, Gobi (China), Atacama (Chile) and Antarctica.
Apart from having to manage diabetes during these competitions, Beatriz García must carry a heavier backpack than his career companions, since he must include a glucometer, a puncture and insulin bolis.
Garcia explains how the management of diabetes has changed in recent years, as it has gone from pointing to glucose measurements in a notebook to use a mobile application 'Countour Diabetes', of Elevise Diabetes Care."The mobile application is linked to the glucose meter and allows me to carry a more controlled diabetes from anywhere in the world," he said.
The meter connects to the application to transmit Bluetooth the blood glucose readings and record food, activity and medication. In addition, it allows adding photographs, notes or voice messages that help contextualize the results.
According to Gema Pérez, head of marketing and large accounts of Elevise Diabetes Care, mobile applications "provide more structured, complete and contextualized information, which allows the patient to take more easily their decisions on a day -to -day basis.""In this way, better diabetes management results in a better metabolic control," he said.
