The saying is well: it is better to cure in health.Or in other words: it is better to prevent cure.And to this is committed to a campaign of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) among schoolchildren, who wants to avoid complications derived from overweight and obesity.
The campaign "I move and as well" was launched a week ago in several parts of the country, and will be active until May, promoting among schools physical exercise, daily hydration and a food rich in fruits, vegetables, legumesand vegetables.
According to the box data, 34% of schoolchildren have some degree of overweight and obesity.
The largest number of cases is recorded in San José, Heredia and Carthage.
It is estimated that in Costa Rica 20% of premature deaths are originated by chronic noncommunicable diseases, such as heart problems and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
If this 34% of schoolchildren continue with unhealthy habits, they will become the sick adults of the future, with conditions such as diabetes, cancer, lung and heart diseases.
A regional study in which Costa Rican schoolchildren participated, found 29% of those who were between six and 11 years old had a level of fat in their bodies higher than recommended.

The message will penetrate by all means, the CCSS reported, including social networks, cinemas and collective means of transport.
At the same time, CCSS specialists in areas such as Nutrition and Physical Education, will visit several schools, including Rafael Moya (Heredia), José Lindo (Paraíso de Cartago) and Darío Flores (Puriscal), carrying games with messages to promote physical activity, hydration and incorporation of fruits and vegetables in the daily diet.

Schoolchildren will receive a bag with materials that will help their schools resume traditional games such as the rayuela.It will also have chalk, beach balls, cones and an instruction for educators and parents to have a guide for activities.
As part of the strategy, the CCSS reported, there will be a recipe book with ten healthy snack recipes.
