Last Saturday, the Canary Islands revived one of those special moments that people who live with diabetes or close to it contribute.
The Canarian cyclist Pedro González made 162 kilometers up on his bike and pedaling for diabetes. With more than 3,000 meters of accumulated slope, its intention was to raise awareness about child diabetes, and raise funds for Canary Associations with their initiative Sweet Solidarity Challenges.
Pedro González's story starts just a year ago.In 2016 he learned that his daughter, Ainhoa Michelle, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, which is why she came into contact with the disease and knew her reality.
Following the diagnosis Pedro González contacted Fadican and discovered the economic needs of this organization, key in the development of diabetes programs in the islands. That is why he decided to contribute his grain of sand.He launched the project solidarity challenges kilometers, for which he sells kilometers of different cycling tests and sports equipment with the Fadican logo for those who want to accompany him.
The first test of the sweet solidarity challenges kilometers took place on Saturday, when he toured 162 kilometers by bicycle of the island of Gran Canaria and raised about 1,000 euros.
With the project solidarity challenges kilometers, Pedro González adds his effort to raise awareness. The money raised with the race will allow diabetic associations of the islands to continue developing projects to improve the quality of life of people suffering from this ailment.
Pedro González left at eight in the morning of Moya and returned to the same municipality seven hours later, after having traveled Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Telde, Ingenio, Agüimes, Santa Lucía de Tirajana and the viewpoint of Pinos de Gáldar.Neither the heat, neither the calima nor the gusts of wind nor the 3,000 meters accumulated of unevenness discouraged him.Now prepare new challenges, even from the Canary Islands, and all with the same solidarity end.
