At 14, Óscar López Moreno is a champion of Spain of Taekwondo in the cadet category.The young Valencian is accustomed to winning fighting since, every day, one beats diabetes, the disease that was diagnosed in 2015. "Sugarman", as his parents call him, is a born fighter.

A year and a half ago Óscar López Moreno became "Sugarman" (the sugary man), a superhero capable of defeating diabetes every day, getting on the tatami to practice taekwondo and pursue a dream.And, at 14, Óscar is a born fighter.In every way.

This young Valencian has just proclaimed himself champion of Spain of Taekwondo in the cadet category.He has done so for the second time and in the next month of September he will travel to Budapest to compete in the European."Sugarman," as his parents call him, he wants to return from there with a medal.

"About six years ago I signed up with a taekwondo classes offered by the City Council, for doing some sport, but little by little I saw that I won things and that I had possibilities," explains Óscar, who lives in Paiporta but eachWeek dedicates between three and four afternoons to train in the gym of the Olimpo Sports Club, in Sedaví.There he prepares to continue planting battle.

«Having diabetes is a challenge.People are not used to seeing athletes with diabetes.You try twice, always, for everything.But with diabetes you live, you don't live for her.It is something you carry and that you have to control.I get the sugar through my nerves, because of the situation ... I am in class and I notice a sugar downturn, I have to leave and take the glucose envelope, ”he says with an unusual maturity at his age.

"The taekwondo gives me more security, I feel comfortable because thanks to my coaches I have a lot of confidence when competing and training," adds "Sugarman," always wrapped up with his parents."They help me a lot, they are very fans of taekwondo, but they are always with me," he says.

In the last Spanish championship, held in La Nucia, Óscar suffered a sugar rise in the final fight and reached 400 sugar.«He gave me a dizziness and I had to be on the floor, relaxing until I could continue to compete.I didn't want to leave.In the end I won, ”he says.
