Studies suggest that moderate wine consumption improves glucose metabolism and increases beneficial cholesterol (HDL) in diabetic patients, said the president of the International Congress Wine and Health (wine and health), Rosa María Lamuela.
The expert made these statements at the beginning of the Congress, which is celebrated this weekend for the first time in Spain and that brings together more than 200 specialists, experts in research on wine and nutrition, who will present the latest scientific studies on the effects on the effectsof this drink in health.
The doctor is a member of the Department of Nutrition, Food and Gastronomy Sciences of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Barcelona.
He indicated that wine polyphenols, more present in red, but also in whites and to a lesser extent in pink, are beneficial for their protective effect in relation to diabetes, as found in the latest research on this disease.
