Its objective is that people with diabetes help other patients living their same situation.
The Serranía de Málaga Health Management Area has ended the first Diabetes Classroom Workshop of the School of Patients for Ronda and the Region.
This project of the Andalusian School of Public Health (EASP) of the Ministry of Health, focused on peer education, aims to have people with diabetes help other patients living their same situation providing them with strategies to improve the management of thispathology and their quality of life.
In this way, a total of ten patients have benefited from this activity in which health professionals who have a support and advice role to solve those doubts that may occur during the development of it also participate.
It is necessary to point out that expert patients have received a previous specific training in which they know the work methodology of the School of Patients, learn to address different blocks of content related to healthy lifestyle habits and psychosocial aspects related to this disease.In addition, they train in skills to boost these workshops through the active participation of all attendees.In this way, it is intended that the classroom become a space for the exchange of information and experiences with the objective that the participants acquire skills to optimize their health status.
On the other hand, indicate that participants have also acquired knowledge on how to break the circle of the disease through positive thinking and how to establish an action plan to implement one or several specific activities in their daily lives that facilitate themachieve objectives that have a positive impact on their quality of life.
The diabetes patient classroom is framed within the different strategic lines developed in the citizen participation plan of the health area and that seeks to create space spaces between patients and health professionals to improve the health of both the general population and sectorsconcrete
School of Patients
The Patient School is an initiative of the Ministry of Health coordinated from the Andalusian School of Public Health, which is born with the aim of training patients, professionals and caregivers, who are those who suffer or live the disease directly, fordeepen the knowledge of the pathology with the aim of handling and dealing with its different phases.It is a methodology to learn and teach the best ways to take care and care for.
In the classrooms of the School of Patients, didactic material prepared for the training consisting of information guides and videos with advice, testimonies and information about the disease is used.
The Patient School makes possible training and information in the first person, closely and with innovative and practical methods.
