The ‘Play Zone’ has a playful and educational character to achieve healthy lifestyle habits and to understand how to treat the disease.

The boys and girls who go to external consultations of the Torrecárdenas hospital count from this week with a new game area called 'Play Zone', created so that the little ones relax and enjoy before their medical or nursing consultation, soAs to support families in the process of understanding diabetes disease, promoting healthy lifestyle habits. This installation is possible thanks to a collaboration agreement between the Andalusian Health Service and the Lilly company.

The territorial delegate of equality, health and social policies, José María Martín has visited this new playground located at the Torrecárdenas hospital and has indicated that “we are very happy to be able to offer the little ones and their families this playful and educational space,Since it is our way of contributing to the knowledge of diabetes and the healthiest lifestyle to face it, in addition to favoring waiting times to enter the consultation are more enjoyable for all, parents and children. ”Martín recalled that "the well -being of children is the responsibility of the whole of society, and it is appropriate to favor that they normalize their difficulties in a cozy environment, calm and designed for their enjoyment and education."

For Teresa Millán, Director of Corporate Affairs of Lilly, "it is a great satisfaction to offer Almeria patients this playful-formative initiative and thus expand the number of children who can enjoy this space while waiting for consultation."From this initiative, the 20,000 children that are attended by the doctors and by the nursing specialized in the external pediatrics consultations of the Torrecárdenas hospital will benefit, of which 15,000 correspond to clinical reviews and 5,000 to new visits.

Of all these children attended in clinical consultation, 180 suffer diabetes, in fact in the last year there have been 25 new diagnoses in the child population of the province of Almería.

Play the level of stress in children

When a minor with diabetes is diagnosed, it is common for the child to have to go to hospital consultations once or twice a week, initially, and every two or three months when the treatment is stabilized. With the installation of a game area, it is tried to reduce the level of stress that it is for them to go to the hospital. The space includes games, stories, tables and chairs for children to entertain and paint.Disney's favorite characters are not lacking in the decoration, which include the first of the factory with diabetes: the coconut monkey.

In Andalusia, these educational spaces have been installed in Seville, in the University Hospitals Virgen de la Macarena and Virgen de Rocío, and in Cádiz, at the Puerta del Mar de Cádiz University Hospital.
