A new diabetes therapy developed at the Federal Institute of Technology of Zurich, in Switzerland, can prevent patients with the disease being forced to make several blood glucose level measurements and take daily insulin injections, current obligations of the current obligationsTreatment of type 1 diabetes and 10% of cases of type 2 of the disease.

The technique consists of the implant under the patient's skin from a capsule that keeps genetically modified renal cells that release exact insulin portions according to the organism's needs. These cells, called Hek, had a better performance than pancreas cells, an organ that secretes insulin, control of the blood level of sugar.

“In 2040, 10% of the world's population will have diabetes. We should do better than demanding that these people measure their glucose level every day, ”says Martin Fussenegger, at the head of the studies. The Brazilian Society of Endocrinology estimates, based on a recent survey, that 14.3 million people have the disease in the country.Of these, about 1.5 million have type 1 diabetes, the main beneficiaries of the new treatment.

The new treatment has been tested in mice and its results were published in the scientific journal ‘Science’.Treated mice have normal glucose levels over several weeks.According to Fussenegger, the implant would have to change every four months. The next step of Swiss research is to test in human beings. The license for the new round of experiments must be given in the next two years.

This would be an artificial pancreas and not the roll of devices and cables that want to sell us now.
But the 2 years of waiting for humans is desperate.

En 1922 descubrieron la insulina, en 1930 la insulina lenta. ¿Que c*** han hecho desde entonces?

Oh and it would be good that the Biotechnology Bachelor who presented himself as a month ago (if someone remembers his nick that cites it) if he has access to the original articles, explain what difference and what advantages there is between this system and the other methods ofBeta cell encapsulation that are already in tests.

But I don't know how they can know about the 4 months of the capsules, if the metabolism of a mouse and a man, they do not resemble anything.

According to the fundamental difference of this future treatment, it is that kidney cells are more resistant than pancreas and can better endure being encapsulated (with little blood and oxygen).
