Expert advocates enhancing research in diabetes prevention measures in high -risk population.
The director of the Comprehensive Diabetes Plan of Andalusia (Pidma), María Asunción Martínez, has highlighted the need to enhance research in diabetes prevention measures in the high -risk population of suffering from it, as well as clinical research in those aspects related to thedisease and have a "relevant" impact on health.
"Part of the solution is in the optimization of the control of risk factors and therapeutic education to provide patients with self -care tools," said the expert during the day 'Diabetes and Comorbidity', organized by the schoolAndalusian Public Health (EASP), with the sponsorship of Astrazeneca.
It also continues, in the field of early detection, where a diabetic retinopathy slow program has already been successfully implanted, the expert has underlined the importance of gaining efficiency, expanding the profile of the screening professional and enhancing technological developmentwhich expedite the management and automated reading of retinographies.
On the other hand, the expert recalled that the comorbidity between patients with diabetes represents a national priority that, in the case of Andalusia, materializes in the implementation of the 'Pidma' plan, an initiative attached to the IV Andalusian Health Plan andThe quality strategy of the Ministry, which seeks to reduce the incidence of diabetes in Andalusia and reduce the frequency not known in this community, in addition to reducing the impact on morbidity and mortality and improving the quality of life of people with this disease, among many othersgoals.
"The plan focuses on the prevention of type 2 diabetes through approach measures of obesity and the promotion of healthy lifestyles; early diagnosis; and therapeutic education adapted to the scope of action in primary care and hospital care;
Also, specifically, the initiative aims to boost excellence research and guarantee the continuing training of professionals through the design of specific training itineraries, in addition to favoring communication between professionals and these also with citizens.
