Of the 11 million diabetics in the country, 3.5 is attended to Social Security;Most are older adults and suffer from type 2 diabetes. In 2015 diabetes in the IMSS generated 21 thousand deaths.

In the new diabetes prevention model in the IMSS it is contemplated to strengthen the prenatal surveillance scheme.In the nurseries where 205 thousand children are served, continue with saturated fat diets, refined sugars and sodium;Increase by more than 6.6 million high school students to the diabetes prevention program.
