In Mexico, 6.4 million people suffer from diabetes, and as in the rest of the world, 50% have not been diagnosed, according to information from the Mexican Diabetes Federation, Civil Association (FMD).
He explained that of the more than 415 million people in that situation in the world, half does not know that the disease has, whose complications can be avoided with adequate self -care.
Within the framework of World Diabetes Day, which is commemorated on November 14, the FMD highlighted the importance of informing and educating about this evil, which is one of the main causes of death in the country.
The executive director of that federation, Gisela Anaya, indicated that this disease and its complications have an annual cost of 3,430 million dollars a year.
Of the patients diagnosed, only one in four has good control of their disease and that derives in complications such as diabetic retinopathy, which can end in loss of sight, renal damage and amputations, among others.
"Diabetes should not be taken as a death sentence (...) With a good self -care complications can be prevented up to 40%, as well as type 2 diabetes, with a healthy lifestyle," he said.
Marco Villalvazo, general and educational doctor, stressed the importance of educating the patient: “It is importantbecause;Otherwise, they do it but ignore the consequences. ”
On the actions to commemorate World Diabetes Day, the FMD will hold a massive event on the monument to the Revolution on November 13, with a health fair and the formation of the blue circle, symbol of the disease.
