Nuevo Laredo, Tam.- Concerned about the high index of diabetic people, the municipal government through the Health Directorate, implemented diabetes clubs with the aim of offering them advice and talks for the care and prevention of the disease.
These clubs attend diabetes, family and people who want to know this disease to prevent it;Nutritional talks, risk, care, advice to change eating habits and exercise, the director of Municipal Health, Martín Mireles Garza, are taught.
"A diabetic foot care workshop is coming, a diabetic retinopathy talk, so we will continue with each condition that a diabetes patient suffers to support him in his treatment," said the official.
He said that on July 5 they will be in Tamul de Villas de San Miguel, 6 in Tamul by Américo Villarreal, 12 at the Community Center of the Francisco Villa neighborhood, 13 in Tamul de Villas del Sol, 19 in the Community Center of New Victoria, 20 inSilao Youth Center in Las Torres, 26 at the Cultural Center of the Palmares Fractionation and 27 in Tamul de El Progreso.
Currently, there are 12 clubs in various parts of the city to which a total of 680 people attend, and this month they will operate from 8.30 to 10:30 in the morning.
Dr. Mireles said that in eight months of administration, they have visited and surveyed 25 thousand houses, representing 100,000 citizens, of this total, more than 40 percent is diabetic.

He pointed out that this disease is no longer exclusive to the elderly, there are young adults, adolescents and even children suffering from diabetes, and their main cause is obesity, so it is considered a worldwide alert in public health.
He reiterated that the municipal government organizes courses, talks and workshops that provide the tools for better care of diabetes patients, an example of this is the Stevia project course that was given last week.
