"The important thing as a society is to reduce inactivity, direct people to a less sedentary life, more active," said Dr. Marco Villalvazo, an educator in diabetes.
“The ideal number of steps is to walk a little more than you walk today.A realistic health objective is 10,000 daily steps, 100 steps per minute, ”he added.
The challenge launched by the MSD pharmacist and the Mexican Diabetes Federation (FMD) implies a call to end the evil that afflicts 415 million people worldwide, according to Villalvazo.
“There is a new case (of diabetes) every three seconds in the world;one death every six seconds;A lost limb every 20 seconds, ”he said.
Villalvazo recalled that in Mexico there are more than 12 million people living with diabetes, of which half do not know, so he stressed the importance of educating in diabetes to end, first instance, with obesity.
"A person who has received education in diabetes can improve his control between 30 and 60 percent, his glucose levels, all his metabolic control decreasing complications in an extraordinary way," he said.
For her part, the FMD executive director, Gisela Ayala, highlighted the importance of creating this type of campaigns for the benefit of the people themselves.
“The first thing we are going to be promoting is that if you do not live with diabetes, you earn years of healthy life;If you already live with diabetes, you want the opportunity to stop complications, ”he said.
