A study suggests that mothers of children with autism diagnosed with metabolic disorders during pregnancy (gestational diabetes and type 2), are prone to develop brain antibodies against the fetus.
The study suggests that diabetic women have a triple probability of developing brain antibodies against the fetus, particularly those women whose children have serious autism. Moreover, women with other types of metabolic disorders also presented a high prevalence of fetal autoantibodies.
The study published in Autism Research claims to have found a triple increase in the prevalence of brain antibodies against the fetus in mothers of children with autism diagnosed with gestational diabetes or type 2 during pregnancy.
