A healthy person can endure up to 40 days without eating.Glucose, the brain can be obtained perfectly with gluconeogenesis of the fat and proteins of the body.
The problem (in DM1) is the other cells that cannot obtain energy without insulin helping to make glucose in them.That causes the liver to not stop transforming fat and proteins into glucose, increasing sugar and acidity in the blood and in a few days we end up in ketonic coma.
I remember a 52 -year -old diabetic case, near my city, which was lost in the forest in summer but without insulin bowling and in 24 hours when they found it, I was already dead for that reason.We do not have any autonomy.
