Carlos Miranda Fernández-Santos, scientific coordinator of the event, stressed that "improving the quality of life, preserving patient safety and avoiding the adverse effects of antidiabetic treatment should be basic objectives."The latest studies support the prioritization of antidiabetic therapies that minimize the risk of hypoglycemic episodes, given the greatest predisposition of the elder to hypoglycemia, the main side effect of the treatment of diabetes in the elderly.
The appropriate diet and exercise must also be included in the recommendations at all stages of diabetes, it has stood out during the day, which has gathered a hundred primary care professionals and has been inaugurated by the president of SEMG, Antonio Fernández-Pro.
