At the inauguration of the 28th edition of the Congress of the Mexican Federation of Diabetes Authorities they assured that in the world there are 415 million people with diabetes and estimate that by 2040 the figure increases to 642 million.
The president of the Board of Directors, Arturo Martínez welcomed both people with diabetes, family members, doctors and students from various universities who went to the conferences.
Subsequently, the General Director of the Undersecretariat of Prevention and Promotion of Health, Dr. Eduardo Jaramillo Navarrete said that diabetes is the number one cause of deaths in Mexico.
"One in five people dies from this disease," Jaramillo said.
They assured that sedentary lifestyle, smoking and alcoholism are the main causes for a person to have diabetes.
"In Mexico we don't have many good habits to have good health," he added.
One of the main solutions that have implemented is the tax that included sugary drinks and junk food so sales have dropped 6%.

Personnel of the Mexican Association of Diabetes, said that several attendees and a speaker doctor who travel to León from Mexico City have had problems with their flights.
Dr. Marisol Gil Pérez, had to give a couple of hours later her conference, "away from control, strategies and tools to favor attachment to treatment."
"With Aeromexico flights no longer are supplied, those from Mexico to León are delayed," said Association's staff.
