A Dutch Foundation, in collaboration with the ADEBI association, will monitor a group of pilgrims to control evolution.

The Dutch Foundation Bas Van Degoor will launch in several sections of the Camino de Santiago as it passes through the Bierzo an analytical and research experience aimed at knowing the influence of walking in people with diabetes.

Diabetes is a chronic condition that is triggered when the body loses its ability to produce sufficient insulin or use it effectively.

And what is about this project is to monitor the participants with diabetes, knowing in real time all health markers, to draw conclusions about the physical exercise and the environment of the Sabntiago path.

The experience will be carried out with the Bierzo Diabetics Association, Adebi, which will also participate in this march.It will take place in the middle of next June, according to the Councilor for Social Welfare of Ponferrada, Pedro Muñoz.

On June 11, about twenty members of the aforementioned Dutch Foundation began on the way, together with the Bercians.The 13 arrive to Ponferrada, to the castle.The mission has health, social, tourist and also formative contents.The Dutch Foundation was created by an old Olympic volleyball champion athlete with the selection of this country that this disease was diagnosed.

The cost of the project amounts to 11,770 euros;The Dutch put 9,000 and the City of Ponferrada 1,000 euros.The research results will be monitored from the Netherlands and the conclusions of sport and diabetes will be disseminated internationally.
