Diabetes became an epidemiological emergency for Mexicans, is the first cause of death among women and the second among men, according to INEGI.However, two of the main factors to reduce condition lies in the ignorance of the factors that cause the disease and the other has to do with the lack of exercise and poor diet.
For various specialists, diabetes has become a “death certificate” for Mexicans, since one in ten adults over 20 years of age suffers.Despite high rates and health campaigns, about 76 percent of Mexicans "erroneously" believe that this condition may be due to a scare or printing, according to the results of a survey conducted by parametry in December 2016.
"It is important that Mexicans know the causes that favor diabetes, so it is essential to eliminate myths such as such disease is caused by strong scares or impressions," says the pollster.
Data from the World Health Organization reveal that Mexico records the largest number of deaths caused by diabetes in Latin America.
The risk elements that make diabetes occur are: genetic factors, sedentary lifestyle, a non -healthy diet and overweight or obesity, says parametry in a press release.
"In the case of Mexico, various studies show that genetic issues, but especially bad life habits and not adequate food are the causes for this high number of diabetes cases," said the pollster.
According to parametry, the total respondents claimed to know the disease, and nine out of ten said that diabetes is caused by hereditary factors (94 percent) and obesity (92 percent).
Although organizations such as the Alliance for Food Health have accused the Mexican Legislative Power of being incongruous and ignorHe has the greatest responsibility in the fight against diabetes.
Only 6 percent of the respondents said that the government is responsible, although the federal government took five years to comply with the recommendation of the United Nations Organization (UN) to declare national emergency by epidemic of obesity as warned inVarious occasions the Alliance for Food Health.
“Legislators have not faced this emergency preventively with specific regulatory actions and reasonable and progressive budget. Now the health system is in crisis, we are facing an epidemic for which there is no vaccine, ”said Alejandro Calvillo, director of The Consumer Power.”
In addition, according to parametry, 85 percent of Mexicans know that diabetes is a disease that has no cure, however, 10 percent states that this condition can be curable.
Some of the measures that citizens can take to prevent the appearance of diabetes according to the Ministry of Health are: to have a good diet, moderate the consumption of sugar and carbohydrates, exercise regularly, not smoking and avoiding sugary and soft drinks.
"While citizens do not assume responsibility for the subject and change their lifestyle and food, diabetes will continue to be a disease with a high prevalence among the population," says parametry.
