The Spanish Diabetes Federation (Fede) has denounced the poor quality of needles in Galicia and has criticized that, "despite the demonstrations and claims of associations of people with diabetes," the public administration does not plan to make any change.

As the Fede said this Sunday in a statement, the injection material for people with diabetes presents quality problems in most autonomous communities in Spain.

The organization has attributed this irregularity to the economic criterion that "prevails" in competitions and that leads to the commercial houses of poor quality needles being always the awardee, leaving out those that "do have demonstrated quality material."

In this sense, Fede has criticized that, "in most committees in which the award of the commercial house is decided, patients are not present."

Likewise, the Federation has indicated that "the necessary (needles) are not dispensed for proper control of the pathology", which leads to "the patient is forced to reuse them, despite the danger that this entails for their health".
