The Zaragoza Diabetics Association promoted a conference under the title 'present and future of diabetes treatment', which was given by Dr. José Antonio Saz Franco, Association Medical Advisor.

With this appointment, World Diabetes Day was remembered in the capital of Cinco Diabetes, which was created in 1991 as a means to increase global awareness about diabetes, a proposal that recalls every January 28.This appointment was the perfect opportunity to direct the public's attention towards the causes, symptoms, complications and treatment of this serious condition, which is constantly increasing throughout the world.

The specialist recalled at the conference that the prevalence of diabetes in Spain is around 13%, a significant fact about the importance and scope of this disease.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that originates because the pancreas does not synthesize the amount of insulin that the human body needs, elaborates the lower quality or is not able to use it effectively.

Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas.Its main function is the maintenance of proper blood glucose values.It allows glucose to enter the body and be transported to the interior of the cells, where it is transformed into energy so that the muscles and tissues work.

In addition, it helps the cells to store glucose until their use is necessary.In people with diabetes there is an excess of blood glucose since it is not distributed in the proper way.

Specialists warn that, if patients do not follow the proper treatment the tissues can end up damaged and very serious complications can occur in the body.

To become aware of the disease and guide Ejea citizens about diabetes, the Zaragoza Diabetics Association promoted this conference that was given in the Civic Center on Thursday, January 28.

In it, different aspects of the disease, such as food, physical exercise, medications, future perspectives, etc. were addressed, etc.
