The Federation of Spanish Diabetics (FEDE) and the foundation of the Diabetes Study Groups NetBeing able to cooperate, exchange experiences and implement actions that benefit both the group of people with diabetes and health personnel.
It is an initiative designed for patients with type II diabetes, an area in which there is a greater field of work with a view to education and training.But these aspects not only concern people suffering from diabetes, but also to health professionals who treat their ailment.And hence the importance of doing a common and intensive work of diabetological education that achieves better medical-patient communication and thus increases the quality of life of people with the disease in such fundamental aspects as adherence to treatment.
Among the actions that will be carried out are the exchange of information of interest to both entities, the development of those actions aimed at promoting the training, information and education of their associates, the development of research activities, as well as the celebration andDissemination of seminars, courses and conferences on matters of common interest.
The president of Fede, Andoni Lorenzo, has declared that this initiative “is aimed at the patient and the specialist walking hand in hand in chronic pathologies such as diabetes.Feedback is essential on both parties and that is only achieved by having adequate formation.Patient's education will undoubtedly lead to the improvement of the quality of life of the chronic patient. ”
“From Fede we defend what is necessary that the National Health System (SNS) firmly bet on diabetological education, since it is a very prevalent pathology in our society and whose figures do not stop increasing, especially in the case of theType II diabetes ”.
The president of the Red-GDPS Foundation, Javier García, is convinced that “the signing of this agreement will be the beginning of a long and fruitful collaboration between two entities aimed at being understood since they represent the medical-patient binomial that is the essence ofthe health activity ”.
Shared decision making
“Among the objectives of this agreement are such important aspects as training and research to improve the medical-patient relationship, the shared decision-making, the continuing training of primary care doctors in the management of the disease, the adhesion ofPatients to treatment, health education and awareness of the leading role that people with diabetes have with their pathology.Through these actions, it is expected to contribute to the improvement in the control of the disease, which will increase well -being and motivate the patient to continue with adequate management, with the consequent improvement in their quality of life and the decrease in the probability of development of development ofboth acute and chronic complications. ”
