The Official College of Pharmacists of Castellón has held a new continuing training session, in this case, to advise the diabetic patient from the pharmacy.
The conference focused on the treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetes, was in charge of Juan Carlos Ferrer García, endocrine doctor.
The expert highlighted the high prevalence of diabetes in the population with rates of up to 14 percent in adults over 18, as well as the socio -health impact that this produces.
Ferrer also spoke of the different types of diabetes and the main characteristics of this disease and showed that type 2 diabetes is more frequent in adults, while type 1 is more in children and adolescents.
In this sense, the importance of encouraging the patient to meet the glycemia control objectives to avoid chronic complications and damage to different organs such as the heart, kidneys or eyes, as well as remembering the benefits of following a diethealthy and of physical activity especially when there is associated obesity.
Likewise, it was influenced that often diabetes is associated with other cardiovascular risk factors that must be equally treated.This is the case of obesity, dysplemia or arterial hypertension, and celebrated the beneficial effect of the new antidiabetic drugs and new insulins.
Finally, the speaker highlighted the fundamental role that pharmacists play together with endocrinologists, primary care doctors, dietitians, psychologists and other professionals when attending and giving help to diabetic patients.
This Academic Course of Continuing Training is focused on "The Pharmaceutical Council" and is aimed at dealing with issues chosen for their daily presence in the patient's problem and that require continuous update by the pharmacist.
