Before insulin shortage to serve patients with diabetes in the countryof lempiras.
Since the previous week, patients with diabetes from several healthcare centers denounced the lack of medication and the concern of suffering complications in their illness by not receiving due treatment.
Batres said that this week the central warehouse will receive 30 percent of the tender that was made last year and will immediately be distributed for the regions and hospitals that need it.
He stressed that the problem with insulin is that the company that won the tender had a legal problem generating the backwardness."We are going to guarantee that all patients have their insulin," he said.
He also acknowledged that "we have worked very well with Social Security and the Intervening Board and they have provided us, they have lent us insulin and also the hospitals were allowed to buy in small quantities."
The official reported that new processes are being created to reduce chronic diseases, since diabetes can be by inheritance, however most patients who are now suffering from it is due to bad life habits.
The president of the Medical College of Honduras (CMH), Suyapa Figueroa, indicated that the use of insulin in patients with diabetes is essential since many use it because oral medications no longer control them.
When they are not applied, complications such as metabolic decompensation or developing a hyperosmolar coma or infections come, because not having the medications the risks are greater.
He indicated that "insulin cannot be replaced by any other medication, especially patients who have type one diabetes, where complications can take them to death."
Figueroa pointed out that the authorities generally make an analysis of how many diabetic patients exist in each hospital in order to plan the purchase of medications, so this type of errors must be corrected as soon as possible.
