Diabetes, obesity and hypertension, among other noncommunicable diseases, represent a public health problem in Mexico and are an important intervention area for the nutrition professional that today celebrates its day in Mexico.

The director of the Faculty of Public Health and Nutrition (FASPYN) of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL), Hilda Novelo, said that in the past, the professional of said specialty was only sought to try to lose weight.

He pointed out that 'today we know that the formation of a nutritionist goes beyond that, because the national challenge is chronic noncommunicable diseases, obesity, overweight, diabetes and hypertension.'

"The population must leave the image of the nutritionist like that someone who will only help him lose weight, it is someone who will help you know you, what are your habits, what is your strength as a human being to improve your state ofHealth, "he said.

Within the framework of the Nutriologist's Day, which is celebrated on January 27, he stressed that the professional of this career helps his patient find clear strategies about whether the issue of purchase, preparation or the amount consumed of food.

He also supports if there are other family or work conditions that do not allow him to be in good condition, he added.

He said that 'it is very important to be clear that young people are facing as a challenge the epidemics of overweight, obesity, cancer and hypertension and must have training in basic science such as cellular, molecular, chemical, biochemistry, physiology, physiology, anatomy.'

Likewise, he pointed out, young people should learn more in detail the aspects of the discipline, such as the elaboration of diets, the knowledge of supplements and pathology.

"The Nutrition Professional has taken a turn to the population, it is comprehensively formed that can perfectly interact with other disciplines, it can take much further, not only makes me a food plan, it explains me, it weighs me and it goes"He said.

In 2000, he said, 'we had a registration of 567 students per semester and we currently have 2 thousand 100 students, we have a sustained increase of 10 percent in the degree and postgraduate is 30 percent.'

Novelo commented that "data in the Mexican Observatory of Chronic Non -Transmissible Diseases require that at national level there are 3.7 Nutritionists or health promoters for every 10 doctors and in Nuevo León this indicator is 6.5 nutritionists, which reflects the valuation that the communityIt has this professional.
