Hundreds of people participate this Saturday in the bridge of La Salve de Bilbao in the challenge of traveling 8,848 meters to raise awareness about the benefits of sport in the fight against diabetes, an appointment organized by the Association Diabetes Zero Bizkaia with the support of the City of Bilbao.
Under the slogan "Make a summit for diabetes without leaving Bilbao", the Diabetes Zero Bizkaia association has challenged the participants to reach between 8,848 meters high of the highest summit in the world to demonstrate the benefit of the sport against thesedentary lifestyle to control diabetes.
The town hall of the Villa has joined the challenge, consisting of a relay race and the mayor, Juan Mari Aburto, has been in charge of carrying out the first relay of the race, which develops uninterruptedly between 11.00 and18.00 on Saturday.
"My presence is a symbolic gesture loaded with content that wants to express closeness to those who suffer from the disease and their families," he recognized.
The stairs of the Puente de la Salve, in Bilbao, are the section chosen to add meters and supports in the fight against diabetes, for which Diabetes Zero has a tent in which all the people who approach can acquire someproduct or make a contribution destined to the investigation against the disease.
Zero Diabetes was born as a movement of a group of people with diabetes and parents of children with this ailment, whose ultimate goal is the cure of type 1 diabetes -a autoimmune variant of the disease, which affects 5% of peoplethose of diabetes and whose causes are unknown- through the monitoring and financing of the research.
