The Jiménez Díaz, Infanta Leonor and General of Villalba Hospitals participate in the La Diabetes Type 2 campaign under control, organized by the Madrid Diabetics Association, in collaboration with Health Madrid and the Janssen company, which will take place on days 14, 17, 17, November 18 and 25, coinciding with the celebration of the Diabetes Month. It is estimated that in the Community of Madrid more than 600,000 people have type 2 diabetes, of which more than 200,000 are still without diagnosing.
Bad diet and sedentary lifestyle continue to be two of the factors that most increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. In fact, it is estimated that a quarter of the Spanish population is at risk of having this disease due to inappropriate life habits. In our country, almost five million people suffer from this health problem and 43% are without diagnosing.
These figures justify that the Type 2 diabetes campaign under control, which was launched in 2014, is aimed both to detect the risk of developing this disease, and to sensitize the population about their prevention through habits of habits ofhealthy life.
As Juan Manuel Gómez Moreno, president of the Diabetics Association of Madrid, says, "the reality is that one in two people with type 2 diabetes does not know that he has it. So for our association there is an urgent need to screen, diagnose and provide appropriate treatment to these people, in order to prevent complications associated with this disease. ”
According to Dr. Julio Zarco, general director of Coordination of Citizen and Humanization of Health Assistance of the Community of Madrid, he says that from the general direction he leads, “he has always opted to include the voice of patients in thePlans, programs and other actions of the Ministry of Health. In this context, we explicitly support the early detection of type 2 diabetes, since it is demonstrated that an early diagnosis improves the quality and life expectancy of these patients ”.
FINDRISC test (Finnish Diabetes Risk Score)
People who approach these hospitals will be able to perform the FINDRISC test.A simple test based on an eight -question questionnaire that allows us to detect the risk of type 2 diabetes in the next ten years. For the completion of the test, hospital health professionals will measure weight and height and ask about various lifestyle habits. This will allow assessing the risk of developing the disease.
The person with a high or very high risk of suffering from type 2 diabetes is advised to visit their primary care doctor to perform the relevant tests to discard or confirm diabetes. This is very important, since the diagnosis of prediabetes means that blood glucose levels are on normal values, but not so high as to have diabetes.Once these high figures are diagnosed, if life habits are not modified, it is quite likely that in the next 5-10 years that person develops a diabetes.
