Lose weight, even if it is little, decreases the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and the components of the so -called metabolic syndrome, said academic Paola Vázquez Cárdenas, of the UNAM Faculty of Medicine.
In a statement released by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the specialist explained that obesity is an excessive abnormal accumulation of adipose fabric and that in Mexico 44 million people suffer from overweight and obesity.
In this scenario, up to a small decrease in body weight (five percent) prevents the development of diabetes mellitus, Aminora the prevalence of metabolic syndrome components and improves the patient's general profile, he explained.
To lose weight, not all individuals respond equal to the different therapeutic strategies, because in their effectiveness several metabolic factors, types of diet, behavioral particularities, hunger and satiety mechanisms, predisposition to the change and regulation of the central nervous system, among others, among othersaspects.
For this reason, the UNAM obesity clinic works with a multidisciplinary model and focuses on the needs of each one.
"Thus, clinical nutritionists, surgeons, endocrinologists, psychologists, psychiatrists and medical sports specialists collaborate to adapt routines that increase energy expenditure and determine candidates for Bypass surgery (which decreases and restricts food absorption)," he concluded.
