In order to have a specialized unit in the study of complications of cardiovascular and chronic-degenerative diseases within a laboratory, the University of Colima obtained 5 million pesos from the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT), according toMónica Ríos Silva, researcher at the University Center for Biomedical Research (CUIB) of this House of Studies.
The resource, said the researcher, was obtained after being selected with her project within the framework of the call for scientific infrastructure in the category of young researcher, and will be aimed at buying specialized equipment to measure the effects of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
"The objective is to establish a unit within a laboratory, to measure many variables and situations that can lead us to diagnose and be able to treat diabetes and the health problems that it causes," he said.
In addition, he commented that these resources will serve to create a monitoring station for remote measurement of biological variables such as blood pressure or heart rate.
The idea, with this team, is to identify biological indicators that modify the emergence of diabetes or its complications and seek the possibility of preventing or modifying the situation with some drug.
The doctor in Medical Sciences stressed that the new team will mainly help undergraduate and postgraduate students for her thesis, both of mastery and doctorate in Medical Sciences and Physiological Sciences.
The name of this project is "Infrastructure acquisition for a unit of measurement, monitoring and biotelemetry for the investigation of biomarkers and chemical components with diagnostic and therapeutic potential of cardiovascular and chronic-degenerative diseases."BP
