From today until May 29, Panama commemorates the National Diabetes Week, to promote behavioral changes towards healthy lifestyles and perform physical activity.
The Panamanian Association of Dietitian Nutritionist recommended to propose long -term goals to prevent this disease such as reducing or eliminating fried food consumption, avoiding sugary drinks, and promoting exercise, drinking water and eating healthy.
Around 202 thousand 160 Panamanians suffer from diabetes, however, 50% do not know the condition, the group points out.
Diabetes is within the first 10 causes of death in Panama.In 2012, 1,071 Panamanians died from diabetes mellitus.
