According to data from the Ministry of Health (Minsa), more than one million Peruvians suffer from diabetes, but until September 2014, only 113,962 patients were attended, a figure that does not reflect the real number of people affected by this disease.
The situation is aggravated because a large percentage of patients does not have access to health or does not know that it suffers from this chronic evil, so in the XV Congress of the Peruvian Society of Endocrinology (SPE), held last August, it was discussedThe poor situation of patients with diabetes.
It was concluded that there is an inappropriate diagnosis, there is no monitoring of this chronic disease; And it is urgent to prepare a prevention, diagnosis, treatment and control guide of diabetes to be an instrument used at all levels of health care.
In addition, scientific societies with the support of health authorities must promote a permanent training plan for the primary health team for the integral and preventive management of the patient with diabetes.
