Querétaro, Apr 25 (Notimex) .- Cataracts mainly affect patients with diabetes mellitus and some of the complications are glaucoma, intraocular hemorrhages, vitreous hemorrhages and retinal detachments or loss of vision.

Dr. Nicolás Perea Ortega, attached to the ophthalmology service of the General Regional Hospital 1 of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), explained that cataracts are the opacity of a specialized structure of the eye, which is called crystalline and that with the passage of theTime conditions the loss of vision.

He established that to prevent these complications, the diabetic patient must carry strict control of their sugar and blood pressure levels, through their family doctor, since these conditions more frequently affect men and women after the 50 years of the 50 years ofage.

"In case of presenting cataracts, the treatment is one hundred percent surgical and consists in the extraction of them and the implant of an intraocular lens," he said.

Not to receive timely treatment, he warned, can be complicated with glaucoma - disease characterized by the increase in eye pressure - and the patient could lose vision.

The specialist recommended that patients protect themselves from ultraviolet radiation to carry out a general ophthalmological study by going with their family doctor.

Therefore, he urged the population that in case of slow and progressive decrease in the visual capacity of one or both eyes or image distortion, go to their family doctor to prevent visual problems.

My dear @fer, this is my very particular case because the whole text I could have written and told in this forum; As you will see, everything happens in the early stages of 10 to 15 years, so they told me that +/- at 30 age (15anos) of diabtes, I would be blind, I was operated, crystalline extraction and now I use glassesBecause at that time, the implants were not common, for all the experience lived, I will always advise them to take care of them as much as possible to retract all the undesirable effects caused by diabetes;)

As always, thanks.

@Oftalmologo I am recently operated from one eye with the LASEK technique.I have read that those of us who are operated have more ballots to suffer from cataracts when we are older, what is true?

By the way I was great from the operation, 100 % of visual acuity (although not as perfect as the good eye) and I never have dryness.

@Oftalmologo "Complications are glaucoma, intraocular hemorrhages, vitreous hemorrhages and retinal detachments or loss of vision." What do you mean, @Oftalmologo that is not true ???Diabetic cataracts (to which diabetics are referred to) can be developed or presented in any diabics if it is poorly balanced at their glymatical levels and that .... at any age !!!(After a time that the disease performs its wear or complications in the organism) of the "rest of the mortals" we do not speak here, so you do not believe "false illusions" to those who still do not carry as many years of diabtes as me !!!!! @ani I do not say that because of your experience you are not right, you hit me a thousand laps, so nothing to say, but @Oftalmologo I think that in these issues he also speaks for years of work and experience, so I doubt that he tries to create false illusions.
As you say bad controls lead to complications, and one thing can end up getting more out, but perhaps by statistics it is not that we have more possibility of having cataracts, other things sure if.

Yes, exactly agree with you my dear @gemater is the only thing I wanted to clarify;THE DIFFERENCE: DIIBTIC CATALATES AND NON -DIBTIC CATALATES !!!That these, I think they are in older people since dibits like me, were diagnosed at the 25os of age!

Look Ani, I have been ophthalmologist for 40 years and the last 25 I have been specifically dedicated to treating the ophthalmological complications of the diabetic. As I have been retired, and I have plenty of time, I thought, when I discovered this forum, that I could help patients with my advice and experience.Nothing is further from my intention than to create "false illusions."On the contrary, if you are curious to read everything I have described in this forum, you will see that at any time I have minimized or sweetly the issue of diabetic retinopathy, but one thing is that and another, attribute to diabetes faults that it does not have.
In your writing, you mix things, such as glaucoma (which like cataracts have nothing to do with diabetes), with intraocular hemorrhages, vitreous and retinal detachments, and even blindness, which are nothing more than manifestations, very serious,of diabetic retinopathy in advanced and terminal stages.
Anyway, I reaffirm my opinions, which are based solely on experience, but are also ratified by international ophthalmological literature. In any case, if my participation has bothered you, I apologize, and if so, I will refrain from now on.All the best

@Oftalmologo, don't leave, we need you a lot here.I am glad that you have not seen with all your experience the "diabetic cataracts", and that it is not documented, I do not know what they mean when they talk about them, but I had ever heard it.

In medicine there are many incognitas and many "tailor drawers" where to put everything that has no logical explanation, and that of diabetes is one of the best.In any case, the presence of cataracts before the age of 50 is exceptional, even among diabetics. And it is already known that a swallow does not make summer

@Oftalmologo, how good to read my dear Dr. !!Everything you comment is very reasonable because you know it for your profession and I thank you for your intervention in this forum that will help us into all!as several and me ask for it too;Keep "helping" with your comments and opinions, only what we should not give is advice to do or believe (it does not go for you) that is so, you have to apply very subtly the Psychology do not forget that you doctors, you have different opinionsthat converge on the same subject and, we can confuse;I say this because I have treated Dres in Paricular in America, the South and the North;USA;Also in Europe, Spain and here in Belgica, Flamand et Wallon, all see my different problem and therefore, I am the same as always !!!!And visiting Drs before you worked as an experience !!!Because, you will not tell me that the experience and wisdom in ophthalmoligie, you acquired it from the first day of work with us .........?Well, Enough of pyropos on my part, and I assure you that I like to talk to you to exchange ideas and concepts about medicine for Dibtcs, a sweet greeting for you and we will talk about other topics!>:/

Throughout my professional life I have sought, as far as possible, that patients were perfectly informed of their problem, because only from knowledge can be reached to the maxila collaboration. From that point of view, which I think is legitimate, and whenever it seems well, I plan to continue doing it.And as in addition, my advice are absolutely selfless ...
