The town of El Ejido will host on July 24 one of the tests of the I Diabetes Triathlon Andalucía Project, an initiative of the Federation of Diabetics Associations of Andalusia and the Spanish Association for Sports with Diabetes (AEDD) -Team One,supported by the Ministry of Health of the Junta de Andalucía.
The objective of this sports encounter, sponsored by Janssen, is to show that being diagnosed with diabetes is not an impediment to performing sports if there is good control of the disease and proper physical preparation.This event will also serve as a framework to develop a diabetological education days.
Specifically, for eight days, nine athletes diagnosed with type 1 diabetes will participate in eight sprint triathlons that will be held in the eight Andalusian provinces between July 18 and 25.Andalusia will be the first community to host this initiative, which will tour the national territory to promote physical activity and show the benefits of sport in people with diabetes.The nine athletes (eight men and a woman) will tour Andalusia for eight days performing different physical tests.Specifically, the 'sprint triathlon' that have been organized include a swimming, cycling and a race test.
The first test will take place in Punta Umbría (Huelva) on July 18.They will go through La Rinconada (Sevilla), Algeciras (Cádiz), Mijas (Málaga), La Carlota (Córdoba), Úbeda (Jaén), El Ejido (Almería) and Huelma (Granada).
