Changsha, APR 16 (Xinhua) - Chinese researchers have used with "success" pork pancreas in transplant operations in three patients with type 1 diabetes, a significant achievement in the treatment of the disease, was announced on Friday.

The three operations occurred between July 2013 and February 2016 at the Xiangya Hospital No. 3, affiliated with the South Central University, located in the central province of Hunan.

The use of insulin of one of the patients has been reduced by 80.5 percent, while for the other two it has done so in 57 and 56 percent respectively, Wang Wei, hospital expert.

The transplant program was carried out in collaboration with researchers at the University of Sydney, Australia.

The medium -term results are reliable, according to a review of the program organized by the provincial health authorities of Hunan.
