Cheerful and with all the energies, hundreds of young people and adults from the different neighborhoods of the capital were concentrated on Sunday morning on Avenida de Bolívar to Chávez, to participate in a pleasant zumbatón.
The event was organized by the Alexis Argüello Sports Movement (MDAA) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), in the context of World Health Day, and the ‘We won diabetes’ campaign.
The young people, again exercised their bodies, in the heat of a mixture of Latin rhythms, including salsa, meringue and bachata.
Guillermo González, a member of the OPS Epidemiology Office in Managua, explained that this year, together with institutions of the Sandinista government, they have combined efforts to combat chronic diseases such as diabetes.
“Diabetes is a disease that is generated by the life and consumption styles of ultraprocessed foods;sugary drinks, ”he explained.
He indicated that added to this, diabetes is produced by a high caloric level and with little nutritional contribution;In addition to a sedentary life, not doing physical activity, this contributes to weight gain and reaching a morbid obesity.
The specialist explained that diabetes contributes diseases such as hypertension;stroke;So a patient with diabetes is a great economic burden for the region.
“The worst thing is that they are young people who are getting sick.We have a large percentage of overweight and obese young people;Young people who do not control this activity, in a few years, will be diabetic, ”he warned.
He said that the Pan American Health Organization and National Institutions have decided throughout this year to deploy awareness activities.
“We are going to do physical activity;We will abandon sedentary lifestyle, we will promote non -consumption of hypercaloric foods;and lower the consumption of sugar and salt;And on the contrary, consume many fruits and vegetables, ”he valued.
The expert always suggested to perform outdoor activities with the family, with the neighbors.And this will contribute to our well -being, we will have a higher performance, and we will have a fuller life.
"Let's win to diabetes, let's move, we will eat healthy, and we will have a healthier life," González said.
For his part, Jesús Hernández, a member of the Alexis Argüello Sports Movement, said that Sandinista youth will be developing the zumbatón in all departments of the country, to promote a healthy life.
“We know that diabetes is a problem for young people.We are performing zumbatones everywhere in Nicaragua.And we hope to carry out many more sports and recreational activities, ”concluded the young man.
Diabetes causes 60 million patients in the region of the Americas, and is the fourth cause of death.
