In addition to promoting healthy lifestyle, Diabetes Cup Spain encourages the maturation process of children with diabetes and family independence.
The jury of the 4th Diabetes Cup Spain has already selected the 80 children between 8 and 12 years with diabetes that will participate in the 2015 edition of this championship organized by Lilly and the Federation of Spanish Diabetics (FEDE).Of all participants, 6 children come from the Valencian Community.
The 4th CUP diabetes is an initiative that pursues the social normalization of the disease through healthy lifestyle habits and the exchange of individual experiences during the coexistence of all participants throughout the tournament days."This championship takes as a reference the values of sport to create an interrelation forum in which participants share experiences, better understand their illness and understand that there are no more limits than those that they impose themselves," explains Teresa Millán, director ofCorporate Affairs of Lilly Spain.
Of all the participants in the first phase of the contest, Álvaro Zanón, Daniel Muñoz, Mario Colmenar and Mauro Reig will represent the Valencian Community among the 10 teams of eight players who will play a total of 22 games to reach the Grand Final.
According to a recent study, some 10,000 children under 15 live with diabetes in Spain, a figure that increases every year with about 1,200 new diagnoses1.Cup Spain diabetes aims to promote healthy lifestyle habits, promote the maturation process of children with diabetes and their independence within the family.“This football tournament is much more than a sports competition.It seeks to get children to understand that their lives do not revolve around diabetes, but that it is diabetes that revolves around them.And knowing its pathology and having it under control, there does not have any limit in everything that they intend to achieve, ”says Andoni Lorenzo, president of Fede.
After the jury selection, the 80 participants from all over Spain have been invited to travel, together with two relatives, to participate in the competition, which will take place on June 27 and 28 in the city of Las Rozas de Madrid football,Place of concentration of the Spanish soccer team.The little ones will stay in the residence of soccer players that the Spanish Football Federation has in these facilities, in the same rooms as their idols of the Red.During the competition, children will be controlled by medical and specialized nursing health personnel, an aspect that reinforces the feeling of parents' safety, while supporting the ‘independence’ process of their child with diabetes.
