Tricks that I have learned in 20 years so that the sensors do not come off

Hello everyone!

I've had type 1 diabetes for over 20 years, and like many here, I've struggled quite a bit with sensors coming off prematurely.Over the years I have picked up some tricks that work for me, and I share them in case they help someone:

1. Clean the skin well before putting it on.I clean the area with alcohol and let it dry completely before placing the sensor.Clean, dry skin grips much better — if there is oil or moisture left, it comes off faster.

2. Put it on for a while before you need it.If you can, place the sensor a couple of hours before (or even the night before if you have to change), so that the adhesive "seats" well on the skin before exposing it to sweat or friction.Freshly put on is when it is easiest to get up.

3. Reinforce with a patch. This is what has changed my life the most, especially for the shower, sports or when you sweat.A patch on top holding the edge makes it last much longer.I always put them on my grandmother, who is also diabetic, and they haven't come off since then.

And you? What tricks do you use?I would love to read yours, as you always learn something new from this.

Greetings 🙂

The only thing I do is clean the area well.

I have never had one come off.Well, once while working, I hit the edge of a piece of furniture, and it came loose.

I bought patches years ago and it was very cumbersome for me to put them on.

Hello Anaisabel!Well, if just by cleaning the area well they don't come off, you're doing great, in the end each skin is a world and there are people who can handle it wonderfully without anything else.

The thing about hitting the furniture happened to me 😅.

And I understand you about the cumbersome patches, the ones from years ago were a hassle to put on, the truth is, they have improved a lot, now there are pre-cut ones that you put on right away, but if you do well without them, you don't need them at all.I use them especially for sports or the pool, which is when they come off the most.

Thanks for sharing your trick!Greetings 🙂

Hello. What type or brand of patches do you use?I am with G4s but they are going to switch me to Simpleras this summer.I was free for several years and in the summer, with the sweat, they came off.

Thanks for any response.

Hello Mohamed, what do you mean by putting a patch on top? What type of patch and where can I get them?I go to the gym a lot and then I always go to the sauna...the freestyle patches don't last long, they come off quickly.
