Through the use of artificial intelligence branches, which are nutritional data mining and Machine Learning, students of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) created a mobile application that functions as a dietary evaluation to prevent overweight and obesity, also identifies the trendto suffer from diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
The creators of this system, Itzel Mancilla Escamilla and Wendy Barreda Cabrera, of the Interdisciplinary Professional Unit in Engineering and Advanced Technologies (UPIITA), pointed out that it is called Sisenutre and works in the Android system.
This prevention tool allows you to register the consumption of daily foods, through three entry methods: photographs of the nutritional information tables and the frontal label contained in the pre -housing products, descriptive audio recordings and text.
For its proper functioning, it is requested that they are clear descriptions of the food in case of the audio, for example, “I took a glass of orange juice or ate three green enchiladas with chicken”, it is also necessary to say the quantity and the unit of measurement.Several groceries can be registered in the same audio.
This app will determine if the user presents any tendency to these diseases, since it takes into consideration data of the user's physical condition, with the formula of the body mass index (BMI), as well as the consumption of daily foods (dietary patterns).
Telematics engineers explained that the app implements Crawler and Scraping web techniques to explore and extract from web pages related to nutrition, calculate the calories and macronutrients of food.It also implements application programming interfaces to extract the transcribed text from audio and photographs recordings.
It is important to mention that this digital product is aimed at people over 18 and that to give a tendency to suffer a disease, several days or weeks of use are required. The students had access to data from people who come to the nutritionist and included foods that Mexicans consume daily.
“The first part is to fill a form such as age, sex, height, weight, relevant data for the user's physical condition. This action helps calculate how many calories and other data related to nutrition. ”
On the other hand, Barreda Cabrera commented that they received a guidance from a nurture team from the National Institute of Pediatrics (Obesity Clinic) to support their project.
Finally, students stressed that the importance of health mining in health helps discover new food patterns and improve the quality of life of thousands of people.
