A Mexican engineer managed to create an apparatus that performs the function of the pancreas for the human body, which not only took a great step in the world of medical technology, but managed to save his life.
Gustavo Muñoz developed the artifact after three years of research and technological development and with an approximate investment of 200 euros in the project.
Likewise, Gustavo tried his invention in a ‘guinea pig’: himself.Because he suffers from diabetes, he managed to improve his quality of life significantly.
The artifact is manufactured with two devices that are already on the market and a microprocessor scheduled by himself.
To work, an artificial pancreas needs three devices: a sensor that is implanted under the skin and measures glucose levels, a device that injects insulin through a catheter and something that is not yet in the market: a 'brain'That detect blood glucose and tell the insulin pump what to do.
After months of research and tests, Gustavo scheduled this ‘brain’ on a rangberry plate.Later it was replaced by an Intel Edition microchip, smaller and comfortable, accompanied by a battery and an antenna.
Thanks to his invention, his life is easier, in addition to safer because he can control glucose levels at all times and there, the need for insulin of his body.
