hello, hello, hello, Hello,

My name is Marian and I am diabetic 1 for a year and a half.

I am a athlete or rather it was athlete ... since I have diabetes I always become bad.

When I run for 15 kilometers I have to eat 4 bananas, or a lot of cookies and be eating every 20 minutes.
Fattening 5 kilos, I lost the form and of course I will no longer do any podium .....

I am very discouraged, they sent me to the psychiatrist because my endocrine says that I do not act correctly with insulin, exercise and food that is going crazy.

I have so many questions for you that I don't know which to start.

My hemoglobin is 7.3 and a year and a half ago I do not know what it is to eat without salad more fish and meat, I do not allow a whim, pasta and rice or try it.

I need you to give me a hand.

My first question, what can I eat in races that I don't get fat to upload my glycemia?

But healthy things, tell me please.

I think just like David. You do not have to change the habits as to the intake in races, etc., you must learn to calculate the "fast" insulin that you need, it will usually be very little, that is, it does not consist of eating more (in these cases),but in lowering fast insulin.
Similarly, in daily life, you can afford other meals (even some caprichito); The system is the same although in reverse, you must increase the rapid insulin in that meal.Basically it is learning to dose, over time it will be easy.If at any time you see that you have uploaded the food too much, put on that time.Fast "extra", it will lower you at a rate of 40 or 50 points per unit applied.
All this is applicable as a "personal" way, I have been with the matter for 50 years (from a kid), tell the endocrine, although sometimes they have trouble understanding certain aspects.

@jconejar thanks. I will tell you that today I ran about 20km following your instructions.
Breakfast without fast insulin and went out with 170 and took the isotonic to the isotonic little by little and when I lacked 5 km I had to use 4 Marías Fontana de Jijiji, but much better, less food and at the end of half orange, I arrived at thefood in 130.
It is true that I never take isotonic, just water..
Now I also have to learn to do my favorite sport, thanks for your advice.
I am a member of an athletics team that will be in Valencia too, I will leave those challenges for another time ...

Each one is a world if it has served you, I am glad, the issue of taking isotonic but did it is very important for the loss of salts and I don't even say doctors. In the half marathons in many they give only water and is a great nonsense. It is not to change your habits to run but eat what best suits confirming it with a doctor.
For example and I say, for those 5 km that you comment and have you taken some cookies Maria may have taken something else, how long does it take to get the glucose the cookies?Remember that although you take if you want to expedite the climb a lot to chew them a lot and drink water after drinking them.

I see @"marian2017" that you do not have controlled the issue of hydrates and the different types that exist according to the effect (in the short, medium and long term) before running that they are in the medium term to begin to take effect toHalf the race. Here you should take into account the glycemic index. And by the time you run and you think it goes down the best thing is something that raises the levels fast. With the free do not wait for the low levels to be if not that for example you see that you are going in 150 and going down you take something. You will see that seeing

If you could put your exercise schedule and meals we could guide you something
But first of all I recommend the bomb

And finally he took the opportunity to ask/congratulate @jconegar for yesterday's marathon in Valencia

Thanks for answering
I am indeed learning day by day because I was 48 years without being diabetic and it is a difficult issue this .....
Used to opening the fridge and eating without limitation or concern ...., and now suddenly it costs me a lot and it is also really difficult for me.
I commented to the endocrine of the bomb but he told me that it was not soon, she decides?
That is, or can I demand it?
I have been taking it for a month but it is very expensive, I will take some more month but my pocket will not be able to allow it.
I train every day except Monday and Tuesday, I am in an athletics team where all are crazy about sport and nobody knows anything about diabetes ..... so I am always loaded with food so you can tender ...

I usually start with a banana if I have less than 150 and then every 20.30 minutes such as or cookies or another banana or some bar, but every 30 minutes I have to eat but I have no strength.
It's like running out of gas ... And he took the cookies or bars and again activated me and at 20 m again without strength ...

If I did so breakfast on Sunday and went for a run and better, and also took 200 g of spaghetti (with 2 u) and well at 2 h 130, so I take a pear fruit (I think it's the 2 timeQ took pasta in a year) ... I'm already defeating fear ...

Thank you very much.
The glycemia already in the chronicle I will specify, it is difficult to do sports having diabetes to lie, but again it is shown that it can be and is never too late to start, it would have already been impressive to get the desired times but you have to be aware and know whenI have started playing sports and the time I have been running.Thank you very much for always being there encouraging me.
Although someone does not like it a lot when I put the chronicles I will open a thread with the chronicle of this marathon when he has it.Now to prepare the Valencia talk that is this Friday and I don't have it !!!!!!
A big hug and thanks again.

As the fellow @joseludi tells you my main advice is that controls HC, different absorptions of them, effects of the different insulins.
But please do not let yourself be overwhelmed with the sport for having diabetes now, keep fighting and my best advice and it is the one that I think will go is that you locate a good endocrine that controls the sport, if you do a lot of sport it is the best thing you canDo and teach you well.Maybe it is worth making a small economic effort if you can and know some that really knows, because I assure you that it is not to say that all endocrine do not know but look for any that you have references of it.
To do sports can be with diabetes and if you knew my story you would see it, you can and it is never too late to start.
I learn from all of you from all people who have diabetes and comment, then I analyze and see what can be worth it and what I don't.
I had to put myself in the hands of a medical specialist in endocrinonology and diabetes expert, I assure you that it is worth it if you like sport and love it, I also tell you that you are very careful with the advice we give you because each one is a world andWe are not all the same.
So you comment that you run out of strength I believe that the food you do must see it a doctor and see if the sport you do is correct with your diet that you carry daily, and I do not mean at the time of playing sports.
A big hug.

You insist on the pump, be heavy, get tired. It cost me until I got it.

If you can give more details of a normal day in which you do sports. That is to say about x hours as, at x I do sports, I wear slow insulin at that time, etc.I think you have slow insulin and you also have to take into account if you exercise little after eating and you will walk with fast insulin in the body. The latter I think is also important.

Pufff Each person is a world.I only in bike amount and at 20 min to rise glycemia... If the way is at 40 min .... Of course I do not usually lower the basal.
The first thing I've learned:
Lower the baseline the days of sport (I from 8 or 10 units step to 6uds)
Eat slow absorption hydrates without barely fast, for example rice, pasta or bread that lasts for hours to eliminate it
Carry water with sugar or isotonic drinks.Bananas or cookies take time to go up and I notice the hypo from 40 ... I have little room to raise blood glucose.
When I get home, I measure me and I wait 20 min to relax before making a decision.
But all that does not work if I am horming (blessed menstrual cycle)

In any case I think you still don't control your diabetes.I have also passed, and many from here, due to the anxiety generated by this disease. My first year only ate like you... I speak of 2015 but then you lose your fear.
As they told you, start running a little less and test until you succeed.Little by little, you'll see how you get it.
